Public Transport

Overground-Train

I think we’re quite safe in the used car business, if our competition is public transport!

Yesterday, at about 9:30 am, I picked up a customers car in Long Eaton and took it to Beechwood Mazda, in Derby, for a repair.

Rather than bring someone else out to pick me up, I thought I would catch the train back to Langley Mill. It was only a short walk to the station and the trains seem to run pretty regularly, so off I set.

The ticket office informed me that I needed to change at Nottingham to get to Langley Mill, so after buying my ticket, I made my way to the platform. I thought I had about 10 minutes to wait, when the announcement sounded ” The Train To Nottingham will delayed by 35 minutes due to extra safety checks”. Oh well, I thought, I’ll just have to wait.

The train arrived and I boarded to my change location of Nottingham. When I got to Nottingham, I located the platform I needed for the Langley Mill train, only to find it had been cancelled! I asked one of the staff what was happening. All she could do was tell me that my train was cancelled and I would have to wait an hour and a half for the next one.

Time was pressing on and if I waited for the next train it would have been 2:00 pm before I got to the garage! I decided to find another way.

The Tram, I thought. I’ll catch the tram to Parliament Street and then get the Rainbow 1 bus to Langley Mill.

Fortunately, the tram stop is right next to the train station (Thanks to a £100m makeover) and so I caught the tram, walked along Parliament Street, waited 15 minutes for the bus and arrived in Langley Mill 25 minutes later. Now I just had a 15 minute walk to the garage!

I finally got to work at 1:35pm. What a kerfuffle! I’m sure I would not have worked so hard if I had completed a Duke of Edinburgh Award Medal!

In conclusion. You can’t give up your car. You’ll never get anywhere in time to do anything.
